By linear extrapolation of each plot, the energy gap of the indirect type was determined as 0.48 eV in the solid state and 0.17 eV in the liquid state. In contrast, the direct gap of the solid state was estimated as 1.7 eV. However, no direct gap was found in the liquid state. (b) The dielectric functions of the solid and liquid states. of the solid state clearly has a peak around 1.7 eV, in contrast to the profile of the liquid state, which shows no such feature.
