Temperature dependence of the magnetization (M) above room temperature. Data were collected on warming in an applied field of 500 Oe. The inset shows the measured, unsubtracted heat flow form differential thermal analysis of amorphous (ms24). Data were collected with a heating/cooling rate of 5 K/min on a 25 mg sample. Exothermic peaks in the thermal analysis on warming and step-like features in the magnetization data between 800 and 900 K indicate two irreversible phase transformations occur in this temperature range.

Images from ms24 are shown in (a) and (b), ms16-soft in (c) and (d), and ms16-hard in (e) and (f). The compositional contrast in SEM images is enhanced by chemical etching that preferentially attacks the cobalt rich regions. Note the difference in scale between (d) and (f).
