Representative laser spectrum obtained with a 0.67 m Czerny-Turner monochromator having a resolution in first order of ∼60 GHz. These data were acquired with the dye (pump) laser wavelength fixed at 560 nm. The dye laser pulse energy and oven temperature were held constant at 15 mJ and 623 K, respectively. An expanded view of multiple scans of the D2 laser line with the 0.67 m monochromator is shown by the inset. The measured full-width of the spectrum (58 GHz) is instrument limited.

Pump and Na laser pulse waveforms recorded for [Na] = 5.4·1014 cm−3 (T = 593 K) and [Xe] = 1.6·1019 cm−3. The pump wavelength was 560 nm and the width of the pump and Na laser pulses are 6.3 ns and 2.7 ns (FWHM).

Variation of Na D-line laser intensity with the pump laser pulse energy (Ep). Data are given for two temperatures (593 K and 623 K) which correspond to Na number densities of 5.4·1014 cm−3 and 1.4·1015 cm−3, respectively. The pump wavelength and Xe density were 560 nm and 1.6·1019 cm−3, respectively. The solid line is the linear least-squares fit to the Ep < 13 mJ data for [Na] = 5.4·1014 cm−3.
