Figures

Image of FIG. 1.
FIG. 1.

Charge transfer between physically separated rGO sheets. Tapping mode AFM topological image (a) and SPFM image (b) of an rGO sheet which was cut into three pieces labeled as 1, 2, 3 in (a) respectively. Tapping mode AFM topological image (c) and KPFM image (d) taken after the rGO-2 was charged with an AFM tip biased at 12 V for 1 min. The white scale bars represent 1000 nm. The Z scale bar is placed on the right of each image.

FIG. 2.

Factors affecting charge transfer between the physically separated rGO sheets. (a) A schematic depiction of the influencing factors, including separation distance, gap length and substrate type, which were studied in our experiments. (b) The plot of surface potential of adjacent rGO sheet vs the separation distance from a charged rGO sheet on the surface of SiO. In total three plots were taken from the rGO pairs with gap length of 1000 nm, 500 nm, and 30–50 nm, respectively. (c) The plot of surface potential of adjacent rGO sheet vs the separation distance from a charged rGO sheet on the surfaces of mica, SiO, and glass, respectively. The rGO pairs that were studied had a gap length of 30–50 nm.

FIG. 3.

(a) Tapping mode AFM topological image of an rGO sheet that was cut into four separated pieces on SiO. In order to distinguish with the rGO sheets in Figure 1(a) , the four rGO sheets here were indicated with number 4–7, respectively. (b) KPFM image taken after the rGO-4 was charged with an AFM tip biased at 12 V for 5 min. The white scale bars represent 1000 nm. The Z scale bar is shown on the right of each image. (c) The time evolution of the surface potentials of the rGO sheets shown in (a) and (b).

FIG. 4.

(a) Tapping mode AFM topological images of several separated rGO sheets. The arrow indicates the selected rGO sheet that was first charged with an AFM tip biased at 12 V for 5 min and then discharged at −1 V for 1 min. (b) Tapping mode AFM topological image taken after charge injection and discharging operation to the selected rGO sheet. (c) A schematic depiction of the charges transfer between two physically separated rGO sheets through the substrate of SiO. The white scale bar represents 500 nm. The Z scale bar is placed on the right of each image.
