ENHANCEMENT OF THE MEISSNER EFFECT IN TYPE II SUPERCONDUCTORS BY A HEAT PULSE

2.S. H. Goedemoed, A. Van Der Giessen, D. De Klerk and C. J. Gorter, Phys. Letters 3, 250 (1963) have reported an enhancement of the Meissner effect by cyclic perturbation of the temperature. We have investigated the effect of slow cycling of the temperature of the specimen from 4.2 °K towards and back to 4.2 °K in various static fields and found that this procedure can also enhance the final diamagnetic magnetization. However, the enhancement encountered is small and can probably be attributed to the mechanism we describe.
