Threshold effects and large Tc reductions in neutron‐irradiated A‐15 superconductors
1.The over‐all program for irradiation of superconductors involves a collaborative effect with Professor E. Saur and H. Bauer of the Institut fur Angewandte Physik der Universitat, Giessen and with A. Sweedler of Brookhaven National Laboratory.
2.A great deal of irradiation work has been done on [with neutrons (Refs. 3–7), protons (Refs. 8, 9), deuterons (Refs. 8, 10), and oxygen ions (Ref. 11)] and superconductors such as Nb (Ref. 12), (Ref. 4), (Ref. 4), NbTi (Refs. 10, 13, 14), NbZr (Refs. 6, 10), NbN (Ref. 15), etc. However the large changes in critical temperature after a threshold fluence which appear to be a property of A‐15 superconductors (Ref. 16) has not, to our knowledge, been noted previously.
