4.vacuum ultraviolet radiation from ArCl(B→X) at 175 nm was originally tried as a photolytic source of KrF(B) molecules but e‐beam excitation of gas mixtures also produces fluorescence at 258 nm. This latter continuum fell within the bandpass of the detection filter, interfering with the desired emission at 249 nm. Therefore, although was found to produce weaker emission than did it was necessary to use the 193‐nm radiator to simplify the experiment and data interpretation.
