9.Previously, T. Yabuzaki, A. Ibaragi, H. Hori, M. Kitano, and T. Ogawa, Jpn. J. Appl. Phys. 20, L451 (1981) had achieved frequency locking of a cw semiconductor laser to a Doppler‐free spectrum in the saturated absorption of a Cs‐D2 line. Reference 4 had demonstrated hysteresis in the transmission of the output of a pulsed multimode diode laser through a GaAs MQW etalon.
