9.A surface net is the two-dimensional lattice which pertains to a given surface plane of a crystal Since an interface between two crystals is two surfaces in contact, we refer to the two-dimensional lattice pertaining to each of these surfaces at the interface as an interface net. A mismatch between interface nets for two different materials with similar structure and having matched crystal orientation is related to the mismatch in bulk lattice parameter. If those materials have different crystal orientations at the interface, the mismatch is due also to the differing geometries of the two interface nets.
