8.Possibility of for defects responsible for the 5 eV band was first suggested by A. J. Cohen, [Phys. Rev. 1051151 (1957)] as far as the authors know.
9.K. Awazu and H. Kawazoe, [J. Appl. Phys. 682713 (1990)] found that intensities of the 5 eV band in a glass preform increases by heating in an atmosphere in a temperature range 400–700°C and discussed the mechanism.
9.R. M. Atkins and P. J. Lemaire [J. Appl. Phys. 72, 344 (1992)] examined the reaction of germanosilicate fibers with gas at 150–250 °C, finding the formation of hydroxyls and defect centers responsible for a 650 nm luminescence.
