16.It corresponds to three inequivalent points of a unit cell. We tested the accuracy of our calculations, studying different Si surfaces: the formation energy of is lowered by 0.12 (0.12) eV/dimer when asymmetric dimers are considered; was found more stable by 0.02 (0.048) eV/dimer. Si dimers bond lengths in are 2.28 Å (2.26), with (18.3) buckling. These numbers are in quantitative agreement with previously published results,17 quoted here in parentheses.
