The transmittance is normalized to the output of a ridge waveguide with no photonic crystal. The diamonds plot the Faraday rotation in the latter. Three stop bands are visible, centered at 1552.5 nm, 1528.5 nm, and 1497.5 nm.

Calculated transmittance and Faraday rotation for the fundamental TE mode in the photonic crystal by the transfer matrix technique. The model photonic crystal has the same grating period and length as the fabricated structure and same effective index as its fundamental TE mode.
