Projection of a Ronchi ruling (RL) at the top surface of the prism along two equal paths which recombine (counterpropagating geometry). Two incident laser beams are sent at an angle slightly larger than the critical one in order to achieve the TIR condition at a glass/water interface. The top figure shows a closeup of light scattered by a colloidal particle in proximity to the TIR interface when a laser beam from the right-hand side is incident.
