A plot comparing the PDF of gold taken from a capillary (solid) vs that taken in the DAC at (dotted). The difference plot below (solid) shows no asymmetry about PDF Au–Au correlations and we conclude our DAC background correction is valid.
Diagrams comparing and for gold in the diamond anvil cell (DAC) at , with gold in the DAC at . Full-profile fitting plots of are represented with observed data (dotted), model data (solid), and difference plot below (solid).
Unit cell and Au–Au distance as determined by Rietveld and HPQ-PDF analysis. The PDF-derived unit cell values were fit from the entire profile (program PDFFIT), while a Gaussian was fit to the first Au–Au correlation to independently derive this distance. The discrepancy between the Au–Au distances may be explained as an effect of imperfect Gaussian peak-shape. The data point at the final pressure shown in the Au–Au PDF analysis was not included in the regression, due to an increase in the full width at half maximum in the Au–Au correlation (indicating a deviatoric-stress).
Comparison of cell parameter and Au–Au distance as determined by Rietveld and PDF analysis. Estimated standard deviation (ESD) is displayed in brackets.
