Polarization states of transmitted and diffracted beams (a) when the probe beam is incident from Side A and (b) when the probe beam is from Side B. The polarization direction of the probe beam is set to be parallel to (upper in the table) or axis (bottom in the table). Filled circles represent the experimental observation and solid curves represent the theoretical expectation. The observed diffraction efficiencies were represented in the bottom of each polar plot. The ellipticity of a polarization ellipse is also shown at the bottom of each table and the theoretical calculation results for the ellipticity are represented in parentheses.
