Complex channel networks of bone structure
The three-dimensional reconstruction of the one-fourth of the considered bone channel network (a) and the respective complex network (b) obtained by projecting the node coordinates along the axis. The plots in (c)-(d) and (e)-(f) are respective to the left and right considered bones. The dilog plot of the node degree density, shown in (c) and (e), suggests a scale-free network model and indicates the presence of distribution hubs. The average values of the hierarchical clustering coefficients are shown in (d) and (f) for Haversian networks (solid line) and respective random networks (dashed line). The joint node degree density is presented in (g) and (i), where we can see the predominance of edges linking nodes with degree 3 itself. (h) and (j) show the joint degree density for respective random networks.
