In the top panel, the traces correspond to the raw coincidence rates between the remote sites, sifted, and final secure key after error correction and privacy amplification. The bottom panel shows the measured quantum bit error ratio of the sifted key. The acquisition took place during an uninterrupted period of at night. The reduced scatter in the sifted and error corrected keys is due to the clustering of the data for error correction and privacy amplification. For clarity, the traces show a down sampled (1 out of 10) subset.
