7.Behavior similar to that presented in Fig. 1 was first reported by S. H. Goedemoed, A. Van Der Giessen, D. De Klerk and C. J. Gorter, Phys. Letters 3, 250 (1963) for Nb wires and has been observed in wires by D. G. Schweitzer and B. Bertman (private communication).

9.This agrees with the data of D. G. Schweitzer and B. Bertman, Phys. Letters 20, 263 (1966). However, in all the materials we have studied (e.g., Nb, ) we find that magnetization curves traced between the boundaries of the “major hysteresis loop of one sense” exhibit a slope over only the initial portion of the traversal. We cannot at present reconcile this discrepancy between the results of these authors and our data.
10.Fr. Haenssler and L. Rinderer, Helv. Phys. Acta 38, 448 (1965), report that fundamental topological differences are observed between structures resulting from different ways of entering the intermediate state.
