Experimental configuration. A shutter plasma is generated by line focusing the second harmonic of an YAG laser to in width and in length. An ion source plasma is generated from the shutter plasma. Blocking of ions by the shutter plasma is observed using a Faraday cup ion detector.

Ion signal detected by the ion detector from the ion source. Ion signal decreased to around 1% of the unshielded ion signal. is the distance of the observation axis from the surface of the target for the shutter plasma, and is the delay time of shutter plasma generation after the generation of the ion source plasma.
