For different dimensional gold structures, the bond lengths , , , and , defined as in Fig. 1, are calculated without SO interaction. The numbers in parentheses are the corresponding change after including the SO interaction. Binding energy (without SO coupling), (with SO coupling), and their difference are also shown in the unit of eV/atom. In addition, spin-orbit coupling energy is found to be from our atomic calculations with and without SO coupling.
