Schematic diagram of the experimental setup. L is a focusing lens, P1 is a cube polarizer, P2 is a Glan–Thompson prism, A is a linear analyzer, and PD is an InGaAs photodiode. PD amp and Lock-in amp are a photodiode amplifier and a lock-in amplifier, respectively. Ref is the 1 kHz reference signal from the QCL voltage source (pulser).

EO signals when the terahertz radiation from the QCL was initially on and blocked for 2 min at 35% (red line) and 5% (blue line) duty cycles. The femtosecond laser noise (black solid line) was detected without the terahertz radiation and the electrical noise (black dotted line) was the response from the photodiode amplified circuit and other sources of electrical noise without the optical probe beam.
