Scheme of the SNOM configuration for a gold coated dielectric tip of a tetrahedral shape. The tip is excited by a beam incident into the tip onto a metal coated edge. Channels for signal detection and signal dissipation are shown. The signal channels are leaky SP (2,6) and leaky edge plasmon (8) modes designated by branched arrows as well as the radiative modes (1,3,5), whereas nonradiative SP modes (4,7) lead to a dissipation of the signal.
