Experimental setup for determining the field level at different locations along a cross-arm. The HV point to plane electrode creates a corona discharge. Wire sensors are situated 0.01 m away from the surface of the insulators to monitor the voltage due to the discharge. L1 and L2 represent locations 1 and 2 of the sensors.
Voltage readings at 0.18, 0.98, and 1.96 m away from a discharge between the point and plane electrodes 0.06 m apart. The peak values of voltage were recorded over a 200 s period. After a few seconds contribution of the 50 Hz signal was filtered out.
