Schematic of the internally twinned columnar grain structure of martensitic film: the partitions of the columns are depicted by the curved lines, every grain is nanotwinned with twin boundaries parallel to substrate plane. Twin interfaces are parallel to {110} planes of the parent cubic phase. The coordinates , , and are aligned with the ⟨100⟩ crystallographic directions of the cubic lattice whereas the coordinates , , and are associated with the film.
