A quantum wire structure of rectangular cross section. A top gate (not drawn) applies a symmetry breaking electric field to induce Rashba interaction. A battery (not drawn) applies an electric field , , along the channel. Spin polarized electrons are injected at . These electrons travel along and may gradually lose their initial spin polarization. We investigate the spin depolarization of these electrons in time domain as well as in space domain.
