Note on Some Plastic Flow Effects in Steel
1.It is interesting to observe that virtually the identical problem arose in the recent work of Holm, Holm, and Shobert, J. App. Phys. 20, 319–327 (1949). In a study of the theory of hardness, they needed to know the deflections in the case of a ball pressed into a plane. They arrived at a calculated result by assuming that the flattening of the ball and of the plate could each be considered separately and then combined.
