The gray shades represent different orientations of the in-plane polarization as given by the gray shade wheel shown in the lower part of (a) together with the and axes. The axis is defined as . The local orientation and magnitude of the vectors is given by black arrows, the magnitude of being proportional to the length of the arrows. In order to obtain a clear plot of the vectors (maximum value 25%) and to account for statistical fluctuations in count rates, is averaged over four nearest-neighboring points and then only every fourth vector is plotted, thereby reducing the density of vectors by a factor of 64. Two white-dashed lines ls1 and ls2 represent SIMPA line scans [for details, see Figs. 1(b) and 2(a)]; (b) ESP results for the perpendicular polarization component along the line ls1.
