23.In the case of the HB surface, the interatomic distances are similar to the He size. On the other hand, the Armand correction also applies to the specular peak for which we did not observed a different behavior with respect the specular peak of the MT one. Therefore within the experimental sensitivity, the Armand effect is negligible for both the MT and HB surfaces.
24.From Ref. 22 and with the present experimental parameters, the collision time can be evaluated s. This time can be used as a period of a phonon vibration and the corresponding energy is meV. Since phonon states at energies higher than the thermal energy are scarcely populated, they do not contribute to the attenuation of elastic intensities, and the thermal energy can be compared with If the relation is fulfilled, the collision is fast and Eq. (2) can be used without modification. At 50 K, meV and the collision can be considered fast, instead at 100 K the value is only and it is likely there is a correction. On the other hand, the experimental trend of the elastic intensities does not show any anomalous behaviour in the range 40–100 K indicating a small correction.
