The lower energy levels of the FeD radical in the level of the state and the transitions involved in the observed far-infrared LMR spectrum. The lambda-type (parity) doubling has been exaggerated by a factor of 100 for the sake of clarity. All the transitions observed obey the selection rule , .

Part of the far-infrared LMR spectrum of the FeD radical in the level of the state. The spectrum is recorded with the laser line in parallel polarization . The pure rotational transitions involved are , ; the values for the quantum number are marked by the resonances. On closer inspection, each resonance shows a small doublet structure caused by lambda-type doubling. The corresponding resonances for (5.8%) can also be identified, marked by asterisks.

The well-resolved doublet structure arises from lambda-type doubling. The two weak resonances at higher field, marked by asterisks, can be assigned to a different transition of (5.8%) with a slower tuning rate.
