Pictorial representation of the different dynamical evolutions in the classical (a) and in the quantum mechanical (b) framework. In the first case the ergodic hypothesis assumes the constant energy surface to be densely filled by almost all the trajectories leading to the microcanonical distribution. On the contrary quantum dynamics is confined on the -dimensional torus associated with the fixed population set belonging to the -dimensional simplex , represented as a plane in the figure.
