4.This is so basic that we teach it in introductory college chemistry courses; see, e.g., M. A. Silberberg, Chemistry, 3rd ed. (McGraw-Hill, Boston, 2003), p. 549, illustrating beautifully the elongation of an I− ion by an adjacent (or approaching) Li+ ion.
