Experimental energies, term values (T), and quantum defects (δ) for the major transitions of SOCl2 following S 1s excitation. Where possible, comparison is made to Hitchcock et al. 3 The values were calibrated to the S 1s → 6t u transition in SF6 at 2486.0 eV,22 which has an estimated 0.1 eV systematic error in photon-energy reproducibility. The IP and its associated error were determined to be ±0.25 eV or better based upon both a least squares fit using the Rydberg formula, and WinXAS fitting routines.
