40-eV spectra of (a) pure Ag nanoparticle spectrum; (b) nanoparticles created with three times higher Ag concentration in the primary vapor phase; (c) close-to-equal concentration of Cu and Ag in the primary mixture; (d) prevailing Cu concentration. The spin-orbit splitting in Ag 4d band reduces from 1.9 eV to 0.7 eV when going form the pure Ag case to the lowest-Ag-concentration case, where also copper-surface signal appears.
