Matrix Isolation Method for the Experimental Study of Unstable Species
1.Lewis et al. utilized glassy matrices to study suspended materials produced by photolysis or photoexcitation. Lewis, Lipkin, and Magel proposed that the absorption of light by the suspended material may result in the production of radicals, but their interest lay with the products of photoexcitation [see J. Am. Chem. Soc. 63, 3005 (1941)].
