9.The procedure we have used here is not strictly correct since the bandpass of the instrument is not small compared to the “sharp” linewidth. However, in the case of the induced Q branches the bandpass is small compared to the breadth of the features under observation. We feel that the introduction of integrated intensities would contribute little to experiments at these orders of magnitude since at a resolving power of the absorption coefficient obtained for the center of the line is not grossly in error. The errors involved in the calibration procedure used here are such that the induced features appear to be somewhat stronger than they actually are.
