9.Note: In another set of experiments, made earlier, using a specimen with bare palladium wires separated by glass fibers, a (spurious) large magnetic susceptibility developed after second‐stage demagnetization. This effect disappeared completely when the glass fibers were removed and the wires insulated with Formex as described above. It should be noted that very small amounts of paramagnetic impurities in glass can cause serious difficulties below 0.01 °K, since the high dilution possible in the silicate structure at low concentrations can produce electronic paramagnetic materials of very low Curie points.
