3.This statement tacitly assumes that both dx/dt and are not too large. Hence, the subsequent discussion excludes oscillations of the liquid meniscus with high frequency.
4.Strictly speaking, the system concerned cannot attain true equilibrium, since the salt is constantly carried by the forced electric current into one of the two compartments and accumulated there. This effect may be ignored, provided the two compartments are large enough and the solutions in them are very dilute.
