13.Although the two out‐of‐plane ring‐bending modes of 2,3‐dihydrofuran belong to the same symmetry species, the twist gives rise to a well‐formed type‐C band centered near and is probably not highly coupled with the lower frequency ring‐puckering motion. Thus, it is believed that the ring‐puckering motion may be adequately described as an out‐of‐plane oscillation in which the group moves as a unit, i.e., “pls. see pdf. for this diagram”.

16.By treating the group as one corner of a four‐membered ring and employing a reasonable structure (see Ref. 3), a reduced mass of 112.0 a.u., and a 0.192 Å value for 2Z obtained by averaging the extremes of the ground state in Fig. 2, a calculation may be made which estimates an average ground state dihedral angle near 19°.
