Excitonic fluorescence and absorptive trapping spectra of a polymethinium dye
.W. C. Babcock and W. T. Simpson, J. Chem. Phys. 62, 2, 700 (1975).
.s‐ or p‐polarized light has the E‐vector perpendicular or parallel, respectively, to the plane of incidence.
.That is, where (plasma frequency) is proportional to the film density and dependent upon relative transition dipole orientations.
.This model uses a modified Lorentz‐Lorenz relation in which the plasma frequency is divided by 3 to account for random orientation of the transition moments.
.That is, the large splitting is expected since the plasma frequency is not divided by 3 as in the case of random orientation.

.The AT spectrum reported in Ref. 1 for the blue film form is actually for a mixture of the magenta and blue forms.
.Neither the solution nor the films exhibited phosphorescence at room temperature.
