14.The effect is probably molecular in origin and not induced by the crystal itself because corresponding fast and slow processes are observed in solution. Optical density changes between 530 and 580 nm are observed after comparable exposure of oxyhemoglobin solutions to NO. The changes are characterized by pseudo‐first order (in oxyhemoglobin) rate constants of and in which the slow component was between 23% and 33% of the total change.
