6.The generalized cross sections are denned by an expression containing a sum of products of S‐matrix elements with two symbols and two symbols. In Ref. 1, contributions were omitted if the product of the four n‐j symbols was less than However, this tolerance criterion has now been found to be insufficiently stringent. In the present work, contributions were omitted only if one of the n‐j symbols was less than The Raman width and shift cross sections given in Ref. 1 were not subject to this error, and in practice it affected only the higher‐energy cross sections where there were large contributions from high l values.
