16.Photodissociation of with 720 nm light polarized parallel to the ion beam results in two distinct I atom arrival times at a detector located approximately 30 cm downstream of the laser interaction region. The observed doublet, whose splitting reflects the I and kinetic energy release, indicates that the photofragments are primarily oriented parallel to the polarization vector of the laser. The doublet splitting qualitatively confirms the If bond dissociation energy (to be published).
17.The ionic fragments differ for different parent ions, but are concentrated in three or fewer mass peaks. We measure the sum over the four most intense products, normalized by the parent ion intensity and the square of the laser flux.
