Comment on “A new integrable equation with cuspons and W/M-shape-peaks solitons” [J. Math. Phys.47, 112701 (2006)]

In a recent paper [J. Math. Phys.47, 112701 (2006)] Qiao proposed a new completely integrable wave equation. The equation was derived from the two dimensional Euler equations and was proven to posses Lax pair, bi-Hamiltonian structure, and new types of soliton solutions. In this Comment we show that Qiao’s equation is a subcase of an integrable equation, derived by a method that was proposed by Fuchssteiner and Fokas [Physica D4, 47 (1981)] in the early 1980s. We also discuss the existence of the new types of soliton solutions.
