The curves , and (in increasing order), in units of T c , the critical temperature in the balanced case. In region I, the system is in a superfluid phase. In region IV, there are no non-trivial solutions to the BCS gap equation, and the system is the normal phase. In region III we prove, under additional assumptions on V, that the system is in a normal phase, even though non-trivial solutions to the gap equation might exist.
