16.Elementary analysis gives where g, τ and are the pumping efficiencies, total lifetimes, and radiative lifetimes of the and transitions. Maiman et al. (Ref. 15) point out that the largest temperature‐induced change in the R‐line quantum efficiency derives from increased nonradiative decay affecting τ. However, even by 300 K, only decreases to 3 ms from its 77 K value of 4.3 ms. The corresponding change in the ratio as well as in the other ratios appearing in η, should be much less.
