SEM image of the thin film titania sponge structure which was measured at the beamline BW4, DORIS III and at the beamline P03, PETRA III. Two typical structure sizes are visible: hexagonally arranged pores with a diameter of 30 nm and larger pores with a diameter of approximately 100 nm.

2d GISAXS data of the same titania sponge structure as measured at the beamline BW4, DORIS III (a) for α i = 0.35° and at the beamline P03, PETRA III, (b) for α i = 0.38°. The specularly reflected peak is blocked by a beamstop in (a) but visible in (b). With roughly the same incident angle α i, the GISAXS pattern looks different due to the different wavelengths at the two beamlines.

The different incident angles α i are chosen so that qz of the specular peak is approximately the same. In (a), the grey area is covering the specular peaks and for illustrative purposes only every 5th data point is shown. In (b) the data are shown together with the fit to the data as described in the text (solid line). The arrow indicates the same qy-value of the peak, the dashed lines the resolution limits as obtained by fitting (see text). The larger structures of approximately 100 nm are probed more clearly at P03, visible in the larger deviation of the fit and the data, as described in the text. The intensities are not shifted along the intensity axis, but clearly reveal the gain in intensity-to-noise at P03, which results in a factor of 750 in scattered intensity (see text).
