News Picks : Australia endures hottest year on record

By: Physics Today
06 January 2014
BBC: In 2013 Australia experienced its warmest year since record taking began in 1910, and the mean temperature over the past decade was above average, according to the annual climate statement issued by Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology. Moreover, other significant climate events occurred last year, including a series of the most destructive fires to strike the Sydney region since 1968. The bureau’s findings may fuel criticism of the new conservative government, which has already come under fire for having cut funding to global warming research and abolished the nation’s carbon tax.
