News Picks : NASA cuts ties with Russia

By: Physics Today

Guardian: Despite NASA administrator Charles Bolden’s assurance last month that the recent political problems between the US and Russia wouldn’t affect relations between the two countries’ space agencies, NASA announced yesterday that it is severing all ties with Russia, except for activities relating to the International Space Station (ISS). NASA employees are barred from traveling to Russia, hosting visitors from Russia, and emailing or teleconferencing with Russian colleagues. NASA officials took advantage of a statement regarding the suspension to also blame Congress for funding cuts that have made NASA dependent on Russia to ferry astronauts to and from the ISS.
