ScienceNordic: Despite the positive attitude of world leaders over the climate deal that was struck during the recent United Nations climate change conference, scientists remain skeptical. Many say that although admirable goals were set, the agreement doesn’t address specifically how those goals are to be achieved. Moreover, even if all greenhouse gas emissions were halted right now, those already in the atmosphere could cause the 1.5 degrees of warming that the climate agreement hopes to prevent. In addition, the agreement is not legally binding, and the money promised to developing and vulnerable countries to help them cope with climate change may never materialize. Nevertheless, they see the agreement as a step in the right direction.
