This paper discusses the continuous absorption of radiation processes associated with the photodissociation of the ion and the free‐free transitions induced by the proton‐hydrogen‐atom collisions. The results of quantal and quasiclassical calculations of the individual photodisssociation cross section from a given rovibrational state, the Boltzmann‐averaged cross sections, and the total absorption coefficients are reported. Special attention is put to the consideration of the relative contributions of the and H− ions to the total absorption coefficient in a wide range of wavelengths and temperatures of local thermodynamic equilibrium hydrogen plasmas.
